THE BEST OF BRITISH SUMMER!

With record breaking temperatures in June, it’s been a great start to the summer season. And what better way to celebrate the sunshine than enjoying some of our wonderful home-grown produce?

Whatever else summer has got in store for us, you can’t go wrong feasting on British produce at this time of year.

Here’s our guide to the best food and drink to keep you going throughout the season…

British strawberries: this summer, thanks to the intense heatwaves, our home-grown strawberries are bursting with ripe flavour and juiciness. Buy British or not at all this season!

Try this: Mudwalls British Strawberries are sweet, juicy and bursting with summer flavour, they are picked at peak ripeness and are locally grown! Enjoy the juiciest British strawberries while they are in season…

Cream: it’s Wimbledon time and what could be more quintessentially British than the pairing of strawberries and cream? At this time of year, seek out British produce to get the full centre-court experience.

Try this: Rodda’s Clotted Cream. If you’re looking for cream it’s got to be the traditional Rodda’s Clotted Cream. First made in 1890 Eliza Jane Rodda started making Cornish clotted cream in her kitchen in the heart of Cornwall. Now in the fifth generation of the family business Rodda still craft their Cornish clotted cream in the very same way!

Jam: whether you prefer strawberry or raspberry or something more unusual, summer’s seasonal glut of berries means the juiciest, tastiest jam for your table.

Try this: Kitchen Garden’s Summer Berry Jam is an award-winning blend of home-grown fruits – strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. Try it on a summer berry crumble or as a cheesecake topping.

Sparkling wine: if there’s one thing we’re getting really good at in the UK, it’s sparkling wine. Whether that’s down to a warmer climate or better wine-making skills, we’re certainly not complaining!

Try this: Woodchester Valley Vineyard’s gold award-winning Blanc de Blancs 2018 is elegant and creamy with ripe fruit aromas and a delicious mousse – a slow-maturing wine, it will continue evolving in the cellar for years to come - one to stock up on now…

Pimm’s No 1: you won’t be able to go to a summer event in the UK without seeing people enjoying jugs of Pimm’s brimming with strawberries and ice. Mixed with lemonade and topped up with summer fruits and mint, it’s a British summertime classic.

Try this: Cotswolds Distillery’s Cotswolds Summer Cup is a local alternative, made from the distillery’s award-winning dry gin – mix it with lemonade or ginger ale, cucumber, mint, fresh summer fruits and lots of ice – it’s the perfect long drink on a hot summer's day.
